On May 15th this year’s award ceremony was held at the Willow Ridge Golf Course. All finalist and their families were present.  This year’s finalists were: Hannah Wadle, Olivia Mitchell, Hanna Marks, Natalie Martinson, Brayden Bell, Courtney Cordle, Eli Asay, Jeremy Brower, Michelle Chen, and Raven Breiner.

As in years past this is a peer nominated scholarship. Students write an essay nominating another student showing how the nominee exemplifies the social character that was displayed by Katie Lunn. A group of Senior High teachers that knew Katie review the entries and determine the 10 finalists and the winner. Both the winning essay writer and their nominee are awarded scholarships.

The evening was MC’d by Katie’s brother Mitch and her sister Jessica. Both shared stories about Katie and the type of person she was followed by a video that gave everyone in the room the ability to see what Katie was all about. This was followed by a dinner that was prepared and served by the local Iowa Central Community College culinary students. To conclude the evening all nominators read the essay’s they had written and at the conclusion the winners were announced.

This year’s winning nominee was Hanna Marks and writing the essay nominating Hanna was Natalie Martinson.

We would like to congratulate this year’s 10 finalists and the winners of this year’s Katie Lunn “Keep the Smile Alive” scholarship.
